A Wirral man who played a leading role in importing drugs to the Isle of Man inside a microwave is the latest to be snared in a police probe.

James Spotswood, of Townsend Street, Birkenhead, was ensnared by the Operation Achilles probe - a joint operation between Merseyside and Isle of Man Police, targeting an organised crime group's (OCG) plans to flood the island with Class A and B drugs.

Update : earlier this month that Kirsty Quilliam, 40, and Thomas McBurnie, 25, were both jailed for their role in smuggling cocaine onto the island.

Quilliam, of Douglas, took possession of a microwave which was delivered to her address in August 2021. It had been sent from the UK with 248g of cocaine stashed inside its mechanism. It was later collected by local man McBurnie, who was apprehended as he tried to flee the area.
